Dental Crowns in Lahore: Types, Cost & Procedure
Dental crowns in Lahore are the long-term fix for a tooth that has fractured, been heavily filled, or been root-canal-treated. At Odonto, we place permanent dental crowns in six materials — PFM Noritake, PFM VITA, all-ceramic, zirconia, EMAX, and gold — chosen by your dentist based on which tooth needs covering, how heavy your bite is, and how visible the tooth is in your smile. The full dental crown procedure takes two short visits, about a week apart. The dental crown price in Pakistan at Odonto starts from PKR 7,500 — no hidden charges.
PMDC certifiedA custom cap that rebuilds a tooth back to full strength.
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers the entire visible part of a tooth above the gum line. It is bonded permanently to the prepared tooth using a strong dental cement and becomes the chewing surface from that day onwards.
Crowns are used when a tooth is too damaged for a filling but still has enough healthy structure to save. They restore both the function (you can chew normally on that side again) and the appearance (a well-made crown is indistinguishable from your natural teeth).
The six crown materials we work with at Odonto — PFM Noritake, PFM VITA, all-ceramic, zirconia, EMAX, and gold — each have a distinct use case. The video on the right walks you through how each one is made and what it looks like fitted to a tooth.
Six signs your tooth needs a dental crown.
Not every damaged tooth needs a crown — sometimes a filling or veneer is enough. But when one of these signs is present, a crown is usually the longest-lasting and most cost-effective restoration.
A tooth that has fractured
A piece of tooth has chipped or split off — beyond what a filling can rebuild. A crown wraps the remaining tooth so you can chew on that side again without worrying it will break further.
After a root canal treatment
Root-canal-treated molars and premolars become brittle within months. A crown placed within two weeks of the root canal is what makes the difference between an RCT lasting one year and one lasting fifteen.
A very large old filling
When more than half of the visible tooth is filling, the remaining structure is too thin to safely chew on. A crown unites the filling and the tooth into one strong piece.
Severe tooth decay
Decay deeper than a standard filling can repair, but where the nerve is still healthy. The decay is removed, the tooth rebuilt with a strong core, and a crown caps it — all in two visits.
Worn-down teeth from grinding
Years of bruxism flatten the chewing surfaces. Crowns rebuild the bite height — usually paired with a custom night guard so the new crowns are protected from the same forces.
A single discoloured front tooth
A tooth that has darkened from old trauma or a previous root canal — and won't whiten. A porcelain or EMAX crown masks the colour permanently while matching the shade of the adjacent natural teeth.
Six reasons a crown is worth the visit.
A well-fitted crown is one of the highest-leverage restorations in dentistry — short procedure, long-lasting, and the difference between saving a tooth and replacing it.
Restores full chewing strength
The most immediate benefit. A crowned tooth chews exactly like a natural tooth from day one — the side you had been avoiding becomes usable again, often the same week.
Saves the natural tooth root
A crown lets us preserve your natural root rather than extracting and replacing it. Keeping your own root protects the underlying bone, the bite, and your other teeth.
Looks indistinguishable from real teeth
Modern zirconia and EMAX crowns are layered to match your shade and translucency. Most patients tell us friends and family cannot pick out the crowned tooth even after years.
Protects a root canal long-term
A back tooth that has had a root canal but no crown has a high chance of fracturing within 12 months. The crown is the seal that keeps the canal protected and the tooth structure together.
Lasts 10 to 15+ years
A well-fitted crown is one of the longest-lasting restorations in dentistry. Many of the crowns we placed in 2013 are still in service today, looking the same as the day they went in.
Restores confidence in speaking & smiling
A patient who has been hiding a damaged or discoloured tooth often does not realise how much energy that takes. The most common feedback two weeks after a crown: "I forgot it was there."
Seven permanent dental crown options. One that fits.
We place porcelain dental crowns in six material families plus the temporary that comes with every plan. Each type is below — pros and cons listed honestly so you can pick what fits your tooth, your bite, and your budget.
Most affordablePFM Noritake
Porcelain fused to a metal substructure with Japanese Noritake porcelain. The workhorse of crown dentistry. Excellent for back teeth where strength matters more than translucency.
Better shade matchPFM VITA
Same metal-backed construction as Noritake but with German VITA porcelain — better shade matching and a longer-lasting glaze. The premium PFM choice for visible posterior teeth.
All-ceramic optionAll-ceramic (porcelain)
A pure ceramic crown without a metal core or zirconia base. Excellent translucency for front teeth, but with a lower fracture resistance than zirconia or EMAX.
Strongest all-ceramicZirconia
A solid translucent ceramic with no metal core. The most popular crown material in our clinic and across Pakistan in 2026 — strong enough for molars, attractive enough for premolars, and metal-free in the smile zone.
Most lifelikeEMAX (Lithium Disilicate)
The most translucent ceramic in dentistry, mimicking the layered look of natural enamel. The right choice for the upper front six — and only there. Not built for back-tooth grinding forces.
Premium tierGold crown
A gold-alloy crown — extremely durable, biocompatible, and gentle on the opposing tooth. Less common today because of aesthetics, but selected by patients who specifically want the longevity. Available on request.
Same-day temporaryTemporary acrylic
Worn for the 7–10 days the dental lab takes to fabricate the permanent crown. Protects the prepared tooth, lets you chew on soft food, and keeps the gum margin in shape. Replaced at visit two.
Transparent pricing. No hidden charges.
Dental crown cost at Odonto Lahore is fixed per material and per crown. Prices below are all-inclusive: tooth shaping, impression, temporary crown, lab fabrication, try-in, and cementation. The free 15-minute consultation always includes a written quote before any treatment begins.

Ten factors that shape your dental crown price.
Crown pricing in Lahore looks confusing because the spread is so wide — PKR 1,500 at one clinic, PKR 60,000 at another. The ten factors below explain almost the whole difference.
Crown material
PFM is cheapest, gold and EMAX are premium. Zirconia sits in between. The single biggest factor in the per-crown price.
Tooth location
A front-tooth crown takes longer to shade-match and often uses a more aesthetic material — both push the price slightly higher than a back-tooth crown.
Whether you need a core build-up first
A tooth with a large filling or a recent root canal usually needs a core rebuild before the crown. That's an additional PKR 2,500 (composite) or PKR 5,000 (cast post-and-core).
Crown lengthening (rare)
When the tooth has broken close to the gum line, we sometimes need to expose more tooth surgically before the prep. Not needed in most cases — but adds PKR 8,000–12,000 when it is.
Dentist experience & specialisation
A general dentist charges less than a prosthodontist. We have both at Odonto — the right operator is matched to the case complexity, not your wallet.
Government hospital vs private clinic
Government dental hospital crowns are subsidised but come with junior-dentist execution and long waits. Private clinics like Odonto charge full price but you see a senior clinician the same week.
Number of crowns
A multi-unit case (e.g. four crowns at once) usually attracts a small per-unit discount. We quote in writing before any prep work begins.
Lab fabrication tier
Faster turnaround (3–5 days) and premium ceramic shade-matching can carry a small upcharge. Our standard 7–10 day lab quote is included in every price you see.
Adjacent treatments
If a root canal or scaling is needed before the crown, those are quoted separately and discussed at the consultation. You see every line item before signing.
Cementation & impression technique
Digital intra-oral scans and modern bonded cements cost slightly more than the older alginate-and-luting-cement approach but give a tighter margin and a longer-lasting result. We default to the modern approach.
Government dental hospital or private clinic?
Both are legitimate options. Here's the honest comparison so you pick the right one for your case.
Subsidised, but with trade-offs.
Lahore has good government and dental teaching hospitals — Mayo, Punjab Dental Hospital, the public-sector dental departments. Crown work is heavily subsidised.
- ✓Significantly lower fees — sometimes 60–80% less than private
- ✓Same baseline materials as some private clinics
- ×Long appointment queues — multi-week waits common
- ×Junior dentists or house officers usually do the prep
- ×Limited material choice — usually only PFM and basic zirconia
- ×No written quote before the prep is started
Full menu, senior clinician, same week.
Private clinics like Odonto charge full market price but you see a senior clinician on your scheduled date, choose from any material in the menu, and get a written quote before any tooth is touched.
- ✓Senior clinician executes the prep — every time
- ✓Six material options including EMAX and gold
- ✓Written quote before any treatment begins
- ✓Same-week appointments, often same-day for emergencies
- ✓Itemised invoice for insurance reimbursement
- ×Higher fees than government hospital
Specialist prosthodontist or general dentist?
Most crown work in Pakistan is done by general dentists. Some cases need a prosthodontist — a specialist with three additional years of post-graduate training in crowns, bridges, and full-mouth rehabilitation. Here's when each is the right call.
The right choice for most single-tooth crowns.
An experienced general dentist places hundreds of crowns a year and handles 90%+ of crown work in Lahore. For a routine single PFM, zirconia, or EMAX crown on a structurally sound tooth, a senior general dentist is the right fit — and is what you get at Odonto by default.
- ✓Single-tooth crown work — routine
- ✓Crowns over root-canal-treated teeth
- ✓Pricing 15–25% lower than specialist
The right choice for complex multi-unit cases.
A prosthodontist is needed when the case involves multiple units, full-mouth rehabilitation, implant-supported crowns, or unusual occlusal challenges. We refer to a prosthodontist within our network when the case complexity warrants it — and we tell you upfront if your case needs one.
- ✓Full-mouth rehabilitation cases
- ✓Implant-supported crowns and bridges
- ✓Complex bite reconstruction
Front teeth or back teeth? The material changes.
Almost every patient asks the same question at the consultation: "Which material is best?" The honest answer is — it depends on which tooth. Here's how we recommend by position.
Front teeth — visible when you smile.
For the upper front six, translucency and shade match are everything. EMAX is the most lifelike. Zirconia is a strong runner-up at a lower price. All-ceramic is acceptable for budget-conscious cases. PFM is generally not recommended on front teeth because the metal substructure can show as a thin grey line at the gum margin after several years.
Back teeth — chewing force is the priority.
For molars and premolars, strength matters more than translucency. Zirconia is the most popular all-rounder. PFM is excellent and significantly cheaper. Gold is the longest-lasting choice if appearance is a non-issue. EMAX is generally not recommended on molars — it's the most beautiful ceramic but not built for the bite forces a back tooth handles every day.
Twelve steps. Two visits.
Every dental crown procedure at our Lahore clinic follows the same protocol — whether it's a single PFM molar or a full set of EMAX front teeth. You see what is happening in a small mirror at every stage.
Examination & X-ray review
We check the tooth, surrounding gum, bite, and X-ray. If the nerve is healthy, we move forward. If not, root canal first, crown second.
Shade match & material discussion
We hold a shade guide against your natural teeth in daylight. You choose between PFM, all-ceramic, zirconia, EMAX, or gold based on tooth location, bite force, budget, and visibility.
Local anaesthesia
Local anaesthesia numbs the tooth and surrounding gum fully. You feel pressure and vibration during the prep, but never sharp pain. (Skipped for crowns over root-canal-treated teeth — there's no nerve left.)
Decay or old filling removal
Any active decay is excavated. If there's an old amalgam or composite filling, it's replaced with a fresh, properly bonded material before the prep.
Core build-up if needed
A tooth that has lost more than 50% of structure gets a composite core or a cast post-and-core. This rebuilds enough tooth volume for the crown to grip.
Tooth shaping
The tooth is gently shaped on all sides — about 1.0–1.5 mm reduction depending on the material. Less for EMAX, more for PFM. We make precise room for the crown to seat without making the bite feel high.
Retraction & impression
A thin retraction cord pushes the gum aside so the impression captures the prep margin precisely. We use either a digital intra-oral scan or a silicone putty impression.
Temporary crown fitting
A same-day acrylic temporary is shaped, fitted, and cemented with a low-strength temporary cement. It protects the prep and lets you chew on soft food for the week ahead.
Lab fabrication (master ceramist)
A senior ceramist hand-layers porcelain or mills the zirconia/EMAX block to match your shade and translucency. Quality-checked under daylight before delivery.
Try-in & shade verification
At visit two, the temporary comes off. The new crown is tried — we check shade, fit, contact with neighbouring teeth, and bite. You see it in a mirror before we commit.
Final cementation
The crown is cemented with the appropriate bonding agent — light-cure resin for zirconia and EMAX, glass ionomer for PFM. Excess cement is fully removed before it sets.
Polish & aftercare hand-out
A final polish smooths the margin. We hand you a printed aftercare sheet, the WhatsApp number, and book the 6-month review.
Six small habits that hold the result.
A crown lasts as long as the tooth and gum underneath stay healthy. Stick to the list below — both during the temporary week and long-term with the permanent crown.
Floss daily — pull through, not lift out
Slide floss between teeth and pull it sideways out, never lift up. This prevents the temporary from being dislodged and protects the long-term margin of the permanent crown.
Brush gently around the crown margin
Plaque at the gum line is the single biggest reason crowns fail long-term. Soft brush, twice daily, with extra time at the gum margin keeps the crown in place for 15+ years.
Wear a night guard if you grind
Bruxism cracks porcelain over time. A custom night guard (PKR 6,500 at Odonto) extends crown life dramatically and protects your other teeth in the same go.
Return for the permanent crown on time
Don't postpone the second visit beyond 14 days. Temporaries leak after long periods and can let bacteria reach the prepared tooth — undoing the prep work.
Schedule a 6-month hygiene visit
Routine cleaning around the crown margin keeps the gum healthy and lets us catch any issue at the earliest possible point. Standard PKR 4,500 every six months.
Tell us if the bite feels off
The crown should feel level with your other teeth. If it feels high or rocks when you bite, come back — we adjust it in five minutes at no charge.
Four habits that take a crown from 10 years to 20.
Aftercare is what you do in the first month. Long-term maintenance is what you do for the next decade. The four below decide whether your crown becomes the durable restoration it's designed to be — or fails early.
Annual review with photographs
We photograph every crown at the 6-month and 12-month mark so we can track margin integrity year over year. Tiny changes are easy to fix at year one — much harder at year five.
Avoid using the crown as a tool
Don't bite ice, pen caps, or open packages with crowned teeth. The crown handles bite force well — it does not handle sudden point loads. The most common cracked-crown call is from chewing on a popcorn kernel.
Keep your gum healthy
A crown with a healthy gum around it lasts 15+ years. The same crown over a gum-disease site can fail in five. Six-monthly scaling keeps the margin healthy and is the most under-rated lifespan factor.
Replace the night guard every 2–3 years
Custom guards wear out. A flattened or perforated guard is doing nothing for the crown. We check the guard at every recall and recommend replacement only when it's actually needed.
Six things that could go wrong — and how we handle each.
No restoration is risk-free. Most patients have a smooth recovery, but the six potential issues below are worth knowing about before you book — including how we mitigate each at our clinic.
Sensitivity for 1–3 days
Mild sensitivity to cold or pressure on the temporary or freshly-cemented crown. Almost universal, almost always fades within 72 hours.
Crown comes loose
Rare but does happen — usually from a sticky food pulling the crown off, or from cement washout over years. Easy to re-cement if the crown comes off intact.
Chipped porcelain
PFM and EMAX can chip under unusual point loads (an olive pit, an unseen bone in food, a fall). Small chips can often be polished smooth without remaking.
Gum recession around the margin
After 5+ years some patients see slight recession exposing the crown margin. Cosmetic for zirconia/EMAX (no visible change). For PFM the metal underline can show thinly.
Bite feels high after cementation
Sometimes the initial bite adjustment misses a millimetre. The crown feels high when you close together.
Underlying tooth decay (long-term)
If plaque sits at the gum margin for years, decay can develop on the natural tooth root just below the crown. Often invisible until X-ray.
Three different fixes — one of them is right for your tooth.
When a tooth needs work, you usually have three options. The right choice depends on what is wrong with the tooth and what you want long-term.

How much does a dental crown cost in Lahore?+
At Odonto, the dental crown price in Pakistan starts at PKR 7,500 for a PFM Noritake crown, PKR 10,000 for PFM VITA, PKR 18,000 for all-ceramic, PKR 25,000 for zirconia, PKR 40,000 for EMAX, and PKR 65,000 for a gold crown. These are per-crown prices and include the temporary, impression, lab work, try-in, and cementation. There are no hidden charges.
Multi-unit bridges are quoted per unit. If a tooth needs a core build-up before the crown — typical after a root canal — that's an extra PKR 2,500–5,000 and we tell you in advance.
Which dental crown material is best for me?+
It depends on which tooth and how heavy your bite is. For visible front teeth, EMAX or all-ceramic gives the most natural translucency. For molars under heavy chewing force, zirconia is the workhorse. For budget-conscious cases on back teeth, a PFM crown delivers excellent durability at the lowest price point.
We pick based on tooth position, bite force, smile visibility, and budget — never the most expensive option by default.
How long do dental crowns last in Pakistan?+
A well-fitted dental crown commonly lasts 10 to 15 years. Zirconia and EMAX often exceed 15 years when the gum margin is kept clean and grinding forces are controlled with a night guard. Gold crowns can last 20+ years.
The crown itself rarely fails — what fails is the tooth or gum underneath, which is why six-monthly hygiene visits matter more than which premium material you chose.
How many visits are needed for a dental crown?+
Typically two visits about a week apart. Visit one runs about 60 minutes — examination, X-ray, anaesthesia, tooth shaping, impression, and a temporary crown. Visit two runs about 30 minutes — try-in of the lab-made crown, bite check, cementation, and polish.
Same-day digital crowns are possible for select cases — ask at consultation if you have an urgent timeline like a wedding or job interview.
Will a dental crown look natural?+
Modern zirconia and EMAX crowns are layered to match your existing tooth shade and translucency, even mimicking natural enamel patterns at the edges. PFM crowns have a metal substructure under porcelain — they look excellent but can show a thin grey margin near the gum after years.
For front teeth in the smile zone, all-ceramic (zirconia or EMAX) is the better cosmetic choice. We always show you the shade chart in daylight before fabrication.
Is the dental crown procedure painful?+
No. The tooth and surrounding gum are fully numbed with local anaesthesia for the shaping appointment. You feel pressure and vibration during the prep, never sharp pain.
After the appointment, mild gum tenderness for one to two days is normal and is well controlled with simple painkillers like ibuprofen or paracetamol. Most patients return to work the same day.
Can a crown be placed on a root-canal-treated tooth?+
Yes — and for back teeth, it's strongly recommended. A root-canal-treated molar or premolar without a crown has a high risk of fracturing within twelve months. The crown holds the remaining tooth structure together and protects the seal of the root canal filling.
If you have just had an RCT, we usually fit the crown within two weeks of the canal being sealed.
What's the difference between Odonto and a government dental hospital?+
Government and teaching dental hospitals in Lahore offer subsidised crown work at very low prices — but the trade-off is long appointment queues, junior dentists or house officers performing the prep, and limited material choice.
Private clinics like Odonto charge full market price but you see a senior clinician on the same week, choose from the full material menu, and get a written quote before any tooth is touched. Many of our patients are people who tried the government option first and found the wait or the execution didn't suit their case.
Crown vs veneer vs bridge — what's the difference?+
A crown covers the entire tooth — best for weak, broken, or root-canal-treated teeth. A veneer is a thin shell on the front of the tooth — best for cosmetic improvements when the tooth is structurally sound. A bridge replaces a missing tooth using crowns on the teeth either side.
The right choice depends on what's wrong: structural damage usually means a crown; cosmetic-only usually means a veneer; missing tooth usually means a bridge or implant. We discuss all three at consultation.
What are the risks of getting a dental crown?+
Most patients have a smooth recovery. The most common short-term issue is mild sensitivity to cold for 1–3 days. Less common: the crown coming loose (re-cementable in most cases), a small chip in the porcelain, or a slightly high bite that needs a 5-minute adjustment.
Long-term risks — gum recession around the margin, decay on the underlying root, fractures from grinding — are all manageable with good home care plus six-monthly recall visits.
Are there cheaper crown options in Lahore I should consider?+
You will find clinics quoting PKR 1,000–3,000 for crowns — these are usually pre-fabricated stainless steel crowns or temporary acrylic, not permanent restorations. They have a place in pediatric dentistry and emergency cover, but they don't replace a properly fitted permanent crown.
Government dental hospitals offer permanent crowns at lower fees but with junior-dentist execution. Private clinics in Lahore charge anywhere from PKR 6,000 to PKR 60,000 per crown — Odonto sits in the affordable end of the private-clinic range while keeping senior clinician execution.
Do I need a night guard with my new crown?+
If you grind or clench at night (bruxism), yes. Grinding can chip porcelain and overload zirconia or EMAX crowns. A simple custom night guard (PKR 6,500 at Odonto) extends crown life significantly and protects your other teeth too.
If you're not sure whether you grind, your partner usually knows — or we can spot wear patterns at the consultation.

Dr. Mian Momin Ahmad
“The crown is only as good as the tooth underneath. The shape of the prep, the fit at the gum margin, and how clean you keep it day-to-day matter far more than whether the porcelain says VITA or EMAX on the box. We will recommend the most conservative crown that solves your actual problem — never the most expensive option by default. You will see your X-ray, hear the reasoning, and have a written quote in your hand before any tooth gets touched.”
What our crown patients said about the visit.
Six recent reviews from patients who had crown work done at Odonto. Names are accurate where the patient was happy to share them; treatment details and dates are real.
“Got a zirconia crown done on a back molar after a root canal. The colour matches exactly — friends could not pick out the crowned one even when I told them to look. Worth every rupee.”
“I was nervous about the cost so I went with PFM Noritake on two molars. Two years later they look exactly the same as the day they were placed. The honest pricing was the part I appreciated most.”
“Got an EMAX crown on my front tooth after years of hiding it. Dr. Momin took 20 minutes on the shade alone. The result is the closest thing to my real teeth I have ever seen.”
“Two PFM VITA crowns done in one visit on the upper-left side. Painless. The temporary was comfortable for the seven days I had to wear it.”
“Came in with a cracked molar — left with a temporary the same evening. The permanent zirconia was fitted a week later. Honest, no upselling, written quote in advance.”
“I had been quoted higher prices at two other Lahore clinics. Odonto was the most transparent — and the dentist actually showed me the X-ray and explained the case before signing anything.”
